Dozens of quangos and taxpayer-funded organisations have ordered a purge of common words and phrases so as not to cause offence.

Among the everyday sayings that have been quietly dropped in a bid to stamp out racism and sexism are “whiter than white”, “gentleman’s agreement”, “black mark” and “right-hand man”.

Remember, even if you despise what’s being said, free speech is free speech.

After roughly three weeks of campaigning, the son of Texas Congressman Ron Paul has shown himself to be a viable challenger for the Republican nomination to Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat.

On Thursday, Rand Paul, an eye doctor with no professional history in politics, announced that his campaign had been given $433,509 in just 24 hours; Just an echo of the $6 million, one-day “money bomb” his father enjoyed during the 2008 presidential campaigns.

“The real-time donation counter at Dr. Paul’s website at RandPaul2010.com shows that the campaign has raised over $680,000,” Rand’s campaign Web site declares.

Basically, he told Congress that merely by announcing lower rates, the FED kept the world’s economy from collapsing. If it was that easy, why did the economy come so close to collapse? How did central banks so completely misjudge conditions? If they were blind then, are they blind now?

It was not that the FED lowered overnight rates. It was that it doubled the monetary base and swapped T-bills for toxic assets at face value, thereby authorizing accounting subterfuge: “American banks own liquid assets.” They borrowed liquid assets. They still own hundreds of billions of dollars worth of unmarketable junk. Will the FED ever swap back? No.

Congress doesn’t understand any of this. If it did, it would still do nothing.

Is the economy that vulnerable? It is. But to admit this is to admit that the recovery should not be trusted.
